A lanyard is a universal accessory that can hold anything from ID and badges to keys. You can wear these lanyards around your neck or clip them onto your clothes, bags, or belts.

Using a lanyard for keys is an excellent solution if you tend to lose keys easily or forget where you placed them last. In addition, you can attach your house or car keys to the ring and have them on your person irrespective of where you go.

The article will look at different lanyard features and how you can choose the best one for keys.

What is a Lanyard?

A strap or a cord designed in a loop pattern and held together by a clip, hook, or buckle is known as a lanyard. It can be worn around the neck or wrist to hold items such as badges, pen drives, whistles, or keys.

A lanyard is manufactured using various materials. Nylon is the standard material used because it is an economical choice. It is also a smooth and comfortable material to carry around your neck. Polyester is another popular choice of lanyard materials.

Elastic lanyards ensure they fit different people with no issues. Cotton, PVC, neoprene, and satin are some of the other materials used.

You will also have a host of clips and hooks to choose from. For example, a split key ring as an attachment would be an excellent option to carry keys. Other common attachment types available are bulldog clip, lobster clip, and J-hook.

How to Choose the Best Lanyards for Keys

Durability

Keys are heavier to carry around as compared to simple ID badges. So when looking for a lanyard, choose a durable material that will support the weight of the keys. Nylon, cotton, and polyester are the materials you can consider.

Convenience

You will have a strap around your neck for the entire duration you will be out of your home. You should be comfortable wearing the lanyard on your person. If the material causes irritation or the lanyard is too long, it can become a safety hazard.

Breakaway Feature

According to a study, it was found that all lanyards should have safety breakaway features attached to them. This is because if the strap gets stuck, you are at considerable risk of getting hurt in the process.

The breakaway feature ensures that you can quickly detach the lanyard and assure your safety in such a situation.

Key Ring

A lobster, bulldog, or a J-hook clip may not be the best types of attachments for carrying around keys. They will not be able to support the weight of the keys, and the keys are also at risk of falling away from the lanyard.

A nickel-plated split key ring or a sturdy clip-on keychain are ideal types of attachments to hold on to keys securely.

Special Features

Lanyards are available in different colors. For example, you could choose to go with a bright-colored lanyard to ensure your keys never go out of sight. You could also customize the strap according to your brand colors and give out lanyards to your employees.

A detachable feature in a lanyard adds comfort and convenience to the whole experience. You can detach the ring holding the keys, use them, for example, to lock the main door, and clip them back onto the lanyard. You do not have to bend or do a funny dance trying to open or close doors.

When choosing a lanyard for keys, pick a durable material that also is comfortable tag along. You can have the lanyard customized according to your preference in different colors. Always look for breakaway features to ensure your safety.
