How to Improve your Link Plan for your Website

by Josh Biggs in Digital Marketing on 3rd September 2019

With the internet becoming increasingly difficult to navigate and with it being more challenging than ever for website owners to gain a good foothold in the online world, it’s become more important than ever that you know how to publicise your website in an effective way. Now, you could do this through improving your search engine optimisation skills. This is a great way to get the job done and you just need to think of the algorithms that companies like Google and Amazon use to exemplify this. However, we believe that another equally effective way to get your website out there for all to see is through links and backlinks. That’s why you need to have a good link plan in place, but how do you sort this? What really defines a good link plan? DOn’t worry, we’re here to tell you just that.

Backlinks are a really great way for you to get your website out there for others to see. These are more or less links on other websites which provide a link to your website. This can be used as a great advertising program for your site and can generate a lot of new users. For example, you could have a website that sells cutlery. A blog or review site that discusses the best cutlery could mention your designs in their review, and then provide a link. This is a nice organic link to your website that will help generate new unique users for you.

There are a number of tips to consider when you’re coming up with a link plan. First of all, you need to think about what goals you have for your website and how your link plan will fit in with these. Are you trying to increase the number of users that your website gets? Or are you simply trying to expose your website or brand a bit more? No matter what your reason is, it’s always best to come up with a specific goal (or goals) so that you know if you’re succeeding or not. Depending on what your goals are, your links will go on different websites and on different platforms. This means they’ll be exposed to different people that will give you the best chance of achieving your goals.

You might also have to come up with a team for your link plan. It may sound like an easy process, but trust us when we say it’s not. All the biggest companies (or at least the most successful ones) have an effective team in place to carry out their link plan. Roles you should consider filling are a content writer and a project manager. Having these kinds of jobs taken will give you a better chance of creating a successful link plan.

You’ll also need to think about the kinds of software you’ll use to carry out your link plan. You might need more than one depending on the kinds of links you’re using and the kinds of audiences you’re trying to reach, so make sure to check all this out before you get started.
