What Should You Consider When Creating Your Own Brand

by Josh Biggs in Digital Marketing, Marketing on 25th May 2022

Building your brand from the ground is not something that most people find easy. How should my brand make people feel? What appearance should it have? Will it meet the audience’s needs? These are just but a few questions that go around people who want to start a business.

These questions are inevitable, especially when thinking about connecting the dots between who you want to reach and what you want to sell. You can start with a simple step of making your brand’s logo using a free logo maker online.

However, there are other things that you need to consider when you want to make your brand stand out.

1. Audience and competitors

You can start the process of creating your brand by researching competitors and your target audience. This will give you a perfect understanding of the current market. You can achieve this in different ways like:

  • Talk to some of the people who are part of your target audience and know what brand they use and prefer the most
  • Do a small Google search on your services or product category and know your direct and indirect competitors.
  • Check relevant social media accounts of your target market or the pages they follow to know what to offer and how it should be offered

2. Your personality and focus

Remember, it is impossible to establish your brand to be something that everybody will like, especially at the beginning. Therefore, pick your focus that will inform the rest parts of your brand as you grow.

You should ask yourself some questions like what is your position statement? What words do you want to associate with your brand? And what concept or metaphor best describes your brand?

3. Your business name

It is always important and a must to have a name for your brand. Depending on the business type you want to start, your brand’s name will either matter a lot or very little. Either way, you should have a name for the brand.

Your brand is built on more than the name: the actions, reputation, and personality matter a lot. However, if you are a start-up, your brand’s name will be the first big commitment you should make. The brand name will impact your brand logo, marketing campaign, domain, and trademark registration. Therefore, look for a brand name that differentiates you and your competitor.

4. Your slogan

A catchy slogan is one of the most important and nice-to-have assets when building your brand from scratch. Go for something descriptive yet brief to tagline in all your social media website headers, bios, and custom business cards.

Keep in mind that the slogan can change depending on the success and popularity of your business. Also, when you find new angles in marketing or launch a new brand, you can change your slogan. A perfect slogan is catchy, short, and creates a strong impression that can boost your brand awareness.

Your slogan needs to go hand in hand with the appearance of your brand. Therefore, you need to consider how your brand looks and develop visual representation ideas (typography and colors) that work well in the market.
